Joshua 19:42

And Shaalabbin, and Ajalon, and Jethlah,

The verse stands in the geographical record of the distribution of Canaan among the children of Israel, naming towns assigned within the tribal allotments. It forms one part of Joshua's dividing of the land among the children of Israel. Those land-distribution records rested on written documents that accurately described the property.

The land was divided by lot, and to lot is to allot, assign, distribute, sort, catalogue, and portion out. Each part, division, portion, and fate fell by divine determination rather than by chance, hazard, or fortune. That dividing of the land put Israel in a fair way to conquer all their foes and find the promised rest.
