The inheritance assigned to the tribe of Simeon according to its families embraced not only its named cities but all the surrounding villages out to Baalath-beer and Ramath of the south. That allotment was only a small portion, set entirely within the lot belonging to Judah. In later time, some of the powerful families of Simeon went out and established colonies beyond the borders of the Holy Land.
