Joshua 2:5

And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.

The verse belongs to the account of spies sent secretly to search the land, so that opposing forces would not have time to strengthen themselves against Israel and make the conquest harder. It is part of the account of Rahab, a Canaanite who turned from idolatry to worship the true God and joined His people. Her example shows that people from other nations who turned to God were to be united with Israel. The concealment of the spies illustrates the need to act cautiously when advance notice could stir opposition and hinder the work.
