Joshua 22:9

And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go unto the country of Gilead, to the land of their possession, whereof they were possessed, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.

The children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh departed from the children of Israel at Shiloh in the land of Canaan and returned to the country of Gilead. Gilead was the land of their possession, which they had received as their inheritance according to the word of the Lord by the hand of Moses. Their departure came after they had faithfully fought alongside their fellow Israelites in the conquest, and they carried with them a share of the spoils of victory. Those spoils were to be divided with those who had remained behind in their own territory. By thus returning to their own land they settled apart from the sanctuary established at Shiloh.
