Joshua 23:14

And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.

The words belong to Joshua's farewell address to Israel after the wars of conquest had ended and the Lord had given the people rest from their enemies, spoken as Joshua neared the end of his life. Not one thing failed of all the good things the Lord promised Israel. Every promise came to pass unto them, with nothing failing. Israel knew this in all their hearts and souls from personal experience, looking back on what God had done. This fulfillment was tied to compliance with the covenant, insofar as they had met the conditions.

God's faithfulness to His promises assures He will also fulfill His warnings, so that if Israel transgressed and disobeyed His requirements they would perish from the land and be destroyed, as their enemies had been destroyed. Remembering God's mighty acts and the fulfillment of His promises revived Israel's faith and showed them His love and mercy. This reminder of God's providence was meant to lead Israel to gratitude and to humility over their murmurings and failure to follow His revealed will.

Those who have experienced God's merciful care can therefore testify with gratitude that His word has proved true. Those who have experienced the Lord's mercy can affirm His faithfulness and use this assurance to encourage others with words of hope. As every good thing promised to Israel came to pass with nothing failing, so everything God has said about the future will likewise come to pass, including the foretold worldwide pressure to enforce Sunday observance and the confederacy that will oppose the seventh-day Sabbath.
