Joshua 24:29

And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.

The death at one hundred and ten years belongs to the time of peaceful retirement at Timnath-serah after the wars of conquest had ended and the Lord had given Israel rest from enemies. After a long time had passed in that rest, Joshua summoned the leaders of Israel to address them.

The death marks the close of a faithful life and finished work, in which he had wholly followed the Lord and stands recorded as the servant of Jehovah. The generation that had benefited from his leadership served the Lord throughout his lifetime and also while the elders who outlived him remained alive. After his death the older faithful leaders who had crossed the Jordan also passed away, so the new generation no longer had his loyal testimony among them as a guide and light.

The twenty-fourth chapter of Joshua records one of the revivals that took place from time to time among God's ancient people. All who name the name of Christ should take their Bibles and read that chapter carefully and with an understanding heart, together with Joshua 23:8-11 and Judges 2. The purpose of that reading is that readers may search their own hearts whether they are in the faith.
