Joshua Stretches Out His Spear Toward Aiby emmanuel_higgins

Joshua 8:26

For Joshua drew not his hand back, wherewith he stretched out the spear, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.

The verse belongs to the account of Israel's capture of Ai, with Joshua leading Israel back against the city after Achan's punishment. That renewed attack began from Gilgal. It came as Israel, with Achan's sin punished and put away, again advanced in obedience to God.

It means Joshua kept his spear stretched out and did not draw his hand back until all the inhabitants of Ai were completely destroyed and defeated. The city was soon taken by God's power. Heavenly forces fought for Israel in the victory.
