Judges 1:14
And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou? And it came to pass, when she came to him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wilt thou?
Judges 1:14 stands in the introduction to Judges, comprising chapters 1, 2, and 3:1-6, which form the opening chapters of the book. This opening comes sometime after the death of Joshua and begins a new period in Israel's history after enslavement. The introduction shows that Israel had not possessed all of the country, that not all of it had been possessed.
It describes Israel's failure to carry out the instructions God gave, their consequent captivity, and the help that came to them through the judges, or saviours, whom the Lord raised up in their behalf. The chapter presents this as a time when Israel was free to choose obedience or self-will and to shape its national character and history.
