Judges 11:7

And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and expel me out of my father’s house? and why are ye come unto me now when ye are in distress?

The confrontation took place while Israel was suffering under Ammonite oppression. That oppression had lasted eighteen years when the elders of Gilead sought help from the fellow Gileadite they themselves had cast out. The man who reproached them for hating him and expelling him from his father's house was that rejected exile. He then became Israel's deliverer and won victory over the Ammonites.
