Judges 12:1
And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.
Judges 12:1 belongs to Israel's troubled and unsettled period under the judges, a fearfully checkered time in the nation's history. That period was marked by unsatisfactory leadership, subjection to heathen nations, and only partial deliverance through God's mercy. The verse comes just after the wonderful and decisive victory God wrought through Jephthah over the Ammonites.
