Judges 12:11

And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.

Elon was a Zebulonite who judged Israel for ten years. The judges were leaders whom God raised up from time to time, generally during national crises, and they were called saviours because they delivered the people. This belongs to the closing history of Judges, a troubled and fearfully checkered period marked by unsatisfactory judges and by Israel's low condition.

That time was also marked by oppression by heathen nations and by partial deliverance through God's mercy. It stands in mighty contrast to the miracles and teaching of Jesus recorded in Luke, yet both speak of the goodness and mercy of God. Both give material for meditation and spiritual growth every day.
