Judges 12:13

And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.

Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judging Israel belongs to the closing portion of Judges that runs from chapter 4 through the last chapter and finishes the book. It falls within Israel's troubled period under the judges, marked by unsatisfactory leadership, subjection to heathen nations, devastation of the country, delayed repentance, and only partial deliverance through God's mercy. It reflects a deeply unstable, fearfully checkered time that shows the low condition into which Israel had fallen before the call of Samuel. It stands in mighty contrast to the miracles and teaching of Christ in Luke 4:31 through Luke 7, yet together with them it speaks of the goodness and mercy of God.
