Judges 12:8 stands within the larger record of Israel's backsliding into wrong, suffering under its consequences, and returning to God. That record then continues into forgiveness granted and deliverance accomplished. Within it, the verse belongs to a section that presents Israel's judges and the conditions surrounding them as unsatisfactory.
