Judges 12:9

And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.

Ibzan judged Israel for seven years and had thirty sons and thirty daughters. He sent his daughters abroad to marry and took in thirty daughters from abroad as wives for his sons. The verse belongs to the account and history of Israel in the time of the judges. It falls within a record of Israel's backsliding from God with resulting suffering, oppression, and servitude, alongside returns to God, forgiveness, and deliverance.

That period was marked by unsatisfactory leadership and troubled conditions. It was a fearfully checkered time ending in the low condition into which Israel had fallen before the call of Samuel the prophet. That history stands in mighty contrast to the goodness and mercy of God shown in the miracles and teaching of Christ, yet it also speaks of the goodness and mercy of God.
