The Angel Ascends in the Flame Before Manoahby emmanuel_higgins

Judges 13:19

So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the angel did wondrously; and Manoah and his wife looked on.

This account belongs to Manoah of the tribe of Dan at Zorah, whose household was one of the few remaining loyal to Jehovah amid widespread apostasy in the early years of Philistine oppression. The Angel of Jehovah had appeared to Manoah's childless wife with the promise of a son through whom God would begin to deliver Israel. That promised son was Samson, who was intended to accomplish a great work for Israel, and whose life was carefully prepared for physical strength, intellectual vigor, and moral purity.

Before his birth the Angel gave instruction in temperance for the mother, that she drink no wine nor strong drink, avoid all products of the vine, and eat no unclean thing. The same prohibition regarding the vine, wine, strong drink, and unclean food was to apply to the child from the first, with the added requirement that his hair should never be cut because he was to be consecrated to God as a Nazarite from birth. When Manoah prayed for the man of God to return to teach what should be done for the child, the Angel appeared again and repeated that instruction to Manoah. In this setting God was communicating with human beings through an angel acting as a powerful helper to His chosen messengers, and the angel's wondrous action over the offering upon the rock was witnessed by Manoah and his wife as they looked on.
