Judges 14:10

So his father went down unto the woman: and Samson made there a feast; for so used the young men to do.

The verse belongs to Samson's marriage to a Philistine woman, a union his God-fearing parents earnestly tried to prevent. The feast Samson made there followed what young men customarily did. In marrying according to his own desire despite their counsel, he joined himself to the enemies of Israel and set himself against his divine mission.

His course was a yielding to passion under temptation he had brought upon himself, though he had the same source of strength available as Joseph and could choose right or wrong. At the feast he was brought into familiar company with people who hated Israel's God. Such willing closeness to those who oppose God presses a person to adopt their habits and customs, and the thoughts and words of that company weaken principle and spiritual strength. His failure to govern himself led toward shame, disaster, and death.
