Judges 14:4
But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel. But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.
The verse stands in the story of Samson, whom God intended to employ in a great work of deliverance for Israel against the Philistines, the enemies then holding dominion over the nation. When the time arrived for him to enter upon that appointed mission, he instead joined himself to those same oppressors by choosing a Philistine wife, placing his life in direct conflict with its divinely given purpose. He was left free to choose between right and wrong, yet he yielded to temptation rather than relying upon God's strength. The path he thus chose led to shame and disaster and ended in death.
