Judges 14:5
Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and, behold, a young lion roared against him. Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and, behold, a young lion roared against him.
On the way down to Timnath with his father and his mother, Samson stepped into danger and temptation that he had brought upon himself, and it was there among the vineyards that a young lion roared against him. The peril was not forced upon him from without but arose from the situation of his own choosing. His history from that point on is the story of a man meeting such self-sought danger and temptation.
His killing of that young lion single-handedly displays extraordinary strength far beyond what is natural to man.
That strength was God's strength made available to him, and he remained free to choose right or wrong in its use. Instead of taking hold of the divine strength offered him, he yielded to passion. That yielding set the course of his choices toward shame and disaster and finally death.
