Samson Kills a Lion and Finds Honeyby CBPepper

Judges 14:9

And he took thereof in his hands, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did eat: but he told not them that he had taken the honey out of the carcase of the lion.

Taking the honey from the lion's carcass marks Samson as already moving along a path of temptation of his own making, entered by deliberately placing himself among the ungodly and the licentious. Though he was physically the strongest man upon the earth, in self-control, integrity, and firmness he was among the weakest. Rather than laying hold of the strength of God, he permitted the wild passions of his nature to have full sway over him.

That surrender perverted his reasoning powers and corrupted his morals. The course he thus entered could only terminate in shame and disaster and death. It stands in direct contrast to Joseph, who when brought under severe temptation chose purity and holiness and honor.
