Judges 15:18
And he was sore athirst, and called on the LORD, and said, Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised? And he was sore athirst, and called on the LORD, and said, Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?
The great deliverance in the cry of thirst belongs to Samson's divine mission as the promised judge and deliverer of Israel, the promised son born to Manoah and named Samson. The extraordinary physical strength shown in that deliverance did not depend on well-knit sinews but on his condition as a Nazarite from birth, of which his unshorn hair was the symbol, a fact well known to Samson and his parents. When sore athirst and in danger, he acknowledged that the Lord had given this great deliverance and called on Him as His servant, because his strength and deliverance were from God.
The same source of strength was available to him as to Joseph, but he chose not to rely on God and instead let his passions rule him. Instead of obeying the divine commands as faithfully as his parents had done, he corrupted himself by friendly mingling and marriage alliance with the idolatrous Philistines. That course forfeited the nobler and happier destiny his life could have had and led to shame, disaster, and death.
