Judges 16:26
And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them. And Samson said unto the lad that held him by the hand, Suffer me that I may feel the pillars whereupon the house standeth, that I may lean upon them.
Judges 16 belongs to the story of Samson, whose associations with the Philistines darkened his life. His choice of a Philistine wife showed that he was following his own desire rather than seeking to honor God.
In the verse Samson asks the lad holding him by the hand to lead him to the pillars on which the house stands so that he may lean upon them. Those pillars were the two central supports of the temple. Having rested against them, he prayed for strength and brought the roof down, killing himself together with the assembled Philistines.
Samson's history shows that physical strength cannot make up for lack of self-control. By giving way to passion instead of relying on God, the course he chose ended in shame, disaster, and death.
