And Samson took hold of the two middle pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his right hand, and of the other with his left. The seizing of the two middle pillars on which the house stood and by which it was borne up belongs to the closing scene of Samson's life, his final defeat and death. It stands as proof that even the greatest physical strength cannot compensate for lack of self-control and obedience to God. Samson's yielding to passion led him onward to shame and disaster and at last to death. Bodily power, however great, without mastery of self and loyalty to God, ends in ruin.
