Samson Carrying the Gates of GazaBible World

Judges 16:3

And Samson lay till midnight, and arose at midnight, and took the doors of the gate of the city, and the two posts, and went away with them, bar and all, and put them upon his shoulders, and carried them up to the top of an hill that is before Hebron.

At midnight at Gaza Samson rose and wrenched the city gate with its two posts and bar from their place and carried them several miles to the top of a hill on the way to Hebron. By this feat of great strength he was delivered from and escaped the Philistines at Gaza. The guards were too surprised and terrified to stop him or pursue him.

Though he had sinned, he felt remorse and remembered that he had broken his Nazarite vow. His deliverance despite his sin and broken vow shows that God's mercy had not forsaken him. His history shows that his strength did not keep him from yielding to temptation, for his passions went ungoverned and the path he chose ended in shame, disaster, and death.
