Judges 16:7
And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man. And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man.
Samson falsely told Delilah that if he were bound with seven green withs that had never been dried he would become weak and be like any other man. By green withs was meant fresh, undried bowstrings offered as a supposed means of binding him. This was a false answer, and when Delilah tested it she discovered his deception. His extraordinary strength did not depend on his physical build but on his Nazarite condition, symbolized by his uncut hair.
He had the same source of strength available as Joseph, but he chose to give free rein to passion instead of relying on God, and his choices led to shame, disaster, and death. He was blinded by Delilah's power to deceive and destroy him because he could not discern the difference between the love of Christ and the lust of the flesh. Delilah's influence drew him away from God and led him to break his sacred Nazarite vow, sacrificing his honor and conscience to passion.
So captivated by Delilah, he betrayed the strength God had given him into her hands, and his sinful indulgence cost him his reputation, strength, and usefulness, while Satan exulted in taking him captive. Through a woman enlisted in the service of Satan he betrayed his strength, the defense of Israel, into the hands of the Philistines, showing the power exerted to entrap and destroy souls by which many wounded have been cast down and many strong men have been slain. Delilah stands as a warning that allowing a spouse to become a snare can draw a person away from God and diminish his strength. The account of Samson and Delilah's deception serves as a warning about being led astray and destroyed by lust and a woman's charms.
