Judges 18:10
When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth. When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.
The final chapters of Judges, chapters 17 through 21, belong to the early part of the judges period, even though the main narrative of the book ends with chapter 16. Their setting is at the time of the division of the land when the sanctuary was pitched at Shiloh, providing a historical marker for that period. Laish, the intended home of the Danites, was a secure and spacious land, prosperous and lacking nothing on earth, whose possession was presented as given by God.
The description comes as the report of scouts who had explored the northern region and returned to urge their tribe to go and seize the land, taking its abundance as reason to act. The seizure led the Danites to destroy Laish, rename it Dan, and establish idolatrous worship there, marking Dan's first apostasy, which continued until the captivity of the ten tribes. That apostasy in this chapter may explain why the tribe is omitted from the list of the 144,000 in Revelation 7.
