Judges 2:22
That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not. That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.
To prove Israel means to permit Satan to tempt, try, and test believing people. God already knows every heart, motive, and thought, yet He allows the test so that the trust and confidence of His people may be revealed and their faith may be found unto honor and glory when the judgment sits and every person is judged according to the deeds done in the body. Those who remain true in trial show by obedience to His written Word that they keep the way of the Lord. These permitted trials and close personal tests magnify His name, for He waits to bestow strength and grace on those who call on Him and works for the good of those who love Him, while His abundant grace is revealed before the heavenly universe, unfallen worlds, and men. He hates sin but loves, forgives, and guards the repentant believing sinner, and with every permitted temptation He makes a way of escape so that no one is tempted above what he is able to bear, imparting divine strength to resist temptation and escape the snare.
