Judges 3:22
And the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly; and the dirt came out. And the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly; and the dirt came out.
Judges 3:22 belongs to the composite record of Judges 3 to 17 of backsliding from God followed by consequent suffering, oppression, captivity and servitude, and of returning to God followed by forgiveness and deliverance. It shows the perversity and unbelief of the people amid awful moral surroundings and the demoralizing influences of the tribes they permitted to remain in the land of promise. It shows the long-suffering and goodness of God in delivering them.
The thrust left both the blade and the haft in Eglon's belly so that the dagger could not be drawn out. The dirt that came out of the belly after the thrust was excrement.
