Judges 3:28
And he said unto them, Follow after me: for the LORD hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of Jordan toward Moab, and suffered not a man to pass over. And he said unto them, Follow after me: for the LORD hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of Jordan toward Moab, and suffered not a man to pass over.
The book of Judges dates to about the time there was a king in Israel, with Samuel or Nathan named as its writers. It records the deeds of the leaders God raised up from time to time, generally called to service in a time of great national crisis when the nation had gone into captivity, and for that reason called saviours, the last of whom was Samuel. The verse belongs to the larger record of Israel's backsliding, the resulting oppression and servitude, and God's forgiveness and deliverance. God left hostile peoples in the land to test the younger Israelites and develop their character through the effort of overcoming them. The verse falls within Judges 3-5, part of a series of lessons beginning with the book of Judges and continuing through chapter 21, set for Wednesday April 6.
