Judges 3:8
Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years. Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years.
God had commanded Israel to destroy the wicked nations of Canaan, not from harshness but to secure Israel's own safety and happiness. Satan used those Canaanites who were left to allure Israel away from God in order to honor himself, and in prosperity Israel forgot God and turned to idolatry. For that disobedience the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel in punishment, reversing their condition so that the Hebrews were subdued to Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia and held in severe bondage for eight years. In their distress their idolatrous connections could not help them, so they remembered the wonderful works of God and began to cry to Him. He answered their cry by raising up Othniel, Caleb's younger brother, as deliverer.
