Judges 6:10
And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice. And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.
The verse is the Lord's reproof and warning spoken to Israel in their distress under Midianite oppression, charging them with not obeying His voice. In it He declares Himself to be the Lord their God and forbids them to fear, reverence, or worship the gods of the Amorites in the land where they dwelt.
Their disobedience was mingling with the heathen, intermarrying with the Canaanites, learning their works, and serving idols even to sacrificing sons and daughters, while provoking Him with high places and graven images. In this they forsook the Lord who brought them from Egypt and guided them in the wilderness, who had delivered them and given them the land, and they turned from His requirements. By these sins Israel was separated from God, and His protecting hand and strength were withdrawn and removed. They were thus brought into subjection to nations they might have subdued through Him, and Midian with Amalek ravaged the whole land for seven years, so that their idolatry preceded and brought the oppression in the repeated cycle of backsliding and chastisement followed by confession and deliverance.
In their distress the people gave heed to and accepted this reproof and warning, confessed their sins, and sought God's mercy. God answered by raising up a helper and faithful deliverer to put down idolatry and free them.
