Judges 6:19
And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it. And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it.
Israel had done evil in the sight of the Lord, and He delivered them into the hand of Midian for seven years. In their distress the people at last heeded the Lord's reproof and confessed their sins, and God raised up a helper for them. The oppression fell first and heaviest on the tribes east of the Jordan, then spread to the whole land. The Midianites joined with the Amalekites from the south and the peoples of the desert from the east, coming in locust-like multitude with their flocks and herds. They arrived when the harvests ripened and stayed until the last fruits were gathered, stripping the fields and robbing and abusing the inhabitants. Those dwelling in the open country were forced to abandon their homes for walled towns, fortresses, caves, and rocky mountain fastnesses.
In that time of scarcity Gideon prepared a kid and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour from his scanty stores. He put the flesh in a basket and the broth in a pot and brought it out under the oak to present it to the divine Messenger as a guest. The Messenger directed him to place the food upon a rock and pour out the broth. Gideon obeyed, and his obedience turned the offering into a sign confirming the Messenger's identity.
