Judges 6:9
And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land; And I delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all that oppressed you, and drave them out from before you, and gave you their land;
In Judges 6 the verse belongs to the repeated story of backsliding and chastisement followed by confession and deliverance. The chastisement came because Israel forsook the Lord God of their fathers who brought them out of Egypt and served idols, so God brought them into subjection to nations they might have subdued and gave his strength into captivity and his glory into the enemy's hand, yet without utterly forsaking them. After Israel did evil the protecting hand was withdrawn, so the tribes east of the Jordan suffered first and then the whole land suffered seven years of ravaging by Midian together with the Amalekites and desert peoples, who swarmed in as soon as harvests ripened and stripped the fields until nothing was left.
Spoken as the Lord's reproof to Israel in that distress, the verse reminds them that God delivered them from the Egyptians and from all later oppressors, drove those nations out from before them, and gave them their land. That reminder grounds the reproof that Israel was to fear no other gods in the land God had given them, but they had disobeyed him. When the people in their distress gave heed to that reproof and confessed their sins, God again raised up a helper and deliverer for them. The deliverer God raised up was faithful and valiant, appointed to put down idolatry and free Israel from its enemies.
