Judges 8:12
And when Zebah and Zalmunna fled, he pursued after them, and took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the host. And when Zebah and Zalmunna fled, he pursued after them, and took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the host.
After seven years of Midianite ravaging, God raised up Gideon as helper and deliverer for Israel, and the defeat of Midian ended that oppression. The verse records Gideon pursuing the fleeing kings Zebah and Zalmunna across the Jordan with his exhausted band of three hundred men. He overtook and captured the two kings, scattering their force of fifteen thousand men and routing the whole host, and afterward slew the leaders, thereby completing the defeat of the invaders. This victory belongs to the Lord's deliverance of Israel from its enemies in the repeated pattern in which Israel's idolatry brought oppression and God raised up a deliverer.
