Judges 8:35
Neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel. Neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.
After Gideon's death Israel did not repay kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely Gideon, for all the goodness he had shown to the nation. That ingratitude toward his family reflected a larger forgetfulness of God, who had delivered them from their enemies. It belongs to the recurring pattern in which Israel returned to idolatry after a deliverer died. Even Gideon's own household fell into gross idolatry, the ruinous outcome of his unauthorized worship and mistaken example.
