Her adversaries are the chief, her enemies prosper; for the LORD hath afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions: her children are gone into captivity before the enemy. The Lord Himself brought affliction upon Judah because of the multitude of her transgressions. That affliction took the form of her adversaries rising to be the chief and her enemies prospering, meaning those opposed to Judah gained ascendancy in power and flourished. Her children going into captivity before the enemy means her own people were carried away as captives into exile ahead of their conquerors.
