Lamentations 2:1
How hath the Lord covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger, and cast down from heaven unto the earth the beauty of Israel, and remembered not his footstool in the day of his anger! How hath the Lord covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger, and cast down from heaven unto the earth the beauty of Israel, and remembered not his footstool in the day of his anger!
In His anger the Lord covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud, bringing Zion low from her lifted position. He cast down the beauty of Israel from heaven to earth, throwing Israel's glory down from its exalted place. He did not remember His footstool in the day of His anger, meaning He did not spare the sanctuary. The surrounding verses explain this judgment as destroying the dwellings of Jacob without pity and throwing down the strongholds of Judah. The same context describes the judgment as profaning the kingdom and its princes, taking away Israel's strength, and slaying those treasured in Zion's sanctuary.
