Lamentations 3:17

And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I forgat prosperity.

The verse belongs to a mournful poem in a book bound up with grief over Jerusalem's coming ruin. That ruin was foreseen beforehand. It was also foretold beforehand. The chapter in which the verse stands is built as an alphabetic acrostic in groups of three, the first three verses beginning with the first Hebrew letter, the next three with the second, and so on through the alphabet. Such alphabetic structure cannot be preserved in English, and it is especially notable in a book marked by deep anguish.
