Lamentations 3:18

And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the LORD:

The cry is that of Jeremiah sinking under tribulation and sorrow into despair, tempted for a time to feel that his strength and his hope had perished as cut off from the Lord. It voices the inward collapse that affliction can bring, when the sufferer fears that divine support has failed. That despair is not the end of the matter, for the same heart turns to remembrance of God's care. Recalling His dealings awakens trust in His mercies, and out of that trust springs renewed hope in Him.
