Lamentations 3:20

My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

The soul possesses the mind's power of remembrance, continually recalling the speaker's afflictions. Remembered affliction and misery humble the soul within. Recalling past suffering bowed down brings lowliness of heart rather than pride or forgetfulness. This humbled remembrance turns toward hope in the Lord's unfailing mercy. Recalling affliction to mind opens the way to quiet waiting for His salvation, as the next verse explains.
