Jeremiah Lifts His Hands at Dawn Over Ruinsby emmanuel_higgins

Lamentations 3:24

The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

The Lord himself is the soul's portion and therefore the ground of its hope, so that in tribulation and sorrow remembering His care and faithfulness gives reason to keep hoping in Him. It is the confession of one who has recognized God's mercy and love and forbearance and has received the gift of faith that works by love and purifies the soul. The Lord Jesus becomes one's portion forever when the heart is opened to receive the Word, is filled with God's love, and is purified by obeying the truth.

The Lord becomes one's portion and hope when one believes in Christ as a personal Saviour and Redeemer, receives and believes His words, obeys the laws of His kingdom, reveals and resembles His character, and is one with Him here so as to be one with Him hereafter. Believing in Christ and receiving His transforming grace is not guesswork but a definite work that reflects Christ's virtues in mind and character, leading the believer to experience God's goodness for oneself and to claim the Lord Jesus as a portion forever. Trusting in the Lord as one's portion forever means continuing to labor in the strength and blessing He gives and doing all that can possibly be done in cooperation with God in hope of seeing advancement in spiritual lines. It carries a longing for young people to individually open the door of the heart so the Lord who waits to bless them will bless them.

It is the confession of those who will receive the glorious heavenly inheritance and the kingdom the Father delights to give to believers. By thus fitting themselves for the mansions Christ has gone to prepare they will at last enter into a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory as heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ.
