To crush all the captives of the earth underfoot is something God does not approve, and oppression of people in general is contrary to him. Bound up with this is that he also does not approve of denying a man what is just when brought before him, nor of overturning a man's cause. He is not as a ruler who delights to make his subjects suffer, for he does not willingly bring affliction or grief upon men. Rather he delights in mercy and desires their salvation.
Even when wicked and unjust men seem to triumph for a time, this is a comfort to those who are wronged or misjudged. Their suffering does not mean that he approves the injustice done against them.
