Lamentations 4:10

The hands of the pitiful women have sodden their own children: they were their meat in the destruction of the daughter of my people.

During the destruction of Jerusalem starvation grew so extreme that compassionate women and mothers cooked and ate their own children. Hunger drove them to this act, showing how famine destroyed natural affection and shattered a mother's compassion for her own children. In this the warning of the horrors to be endured in a siege was fulfilled, and it was fulfilled again in the horrors of the siege of Jerusalem by the Romans under Titus. The suffering of that siege was terrible retribution brought upon the city. Jesus foresaw this starvation and collapse of natural affection coming upon Jerusalem under Roman siege as the consequence of the city's rejection of His salvation.
