The anger of the Lord brought judgment that divided the people. That division was seen in the destruction of Jerusalem and the scattering of its inhabitants under that anger. He would no more regard them or show them favor. That withdrawal of regard was reciprocal, for because they had shown no respect for the persons of the priests and no favor to the elders, they would themselves receive none. Even the priests and elders themselves received no special regard or protection when the judgment came.
