Starving Mother and Child Among Jerusalem's Ruinsby emmanuel_higgins

Lamentations 4:2

The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

The precious sons of Zion, once prized and highly valued like fine gold, are now reckoned as earthen pitchers, the ordinary fragile work made by a potter's hands. The contrast between fine gold and earthen pottery shows how greatly their standing and esteem have fallen and how low they have been brought. That fallen esteem is the sad condition of the church, with the gold become dim. It is marked by lack of faith in God's promises.
