For this our heart is faint; for these things our eyes are dim.
Judah in Babylonian captivity is faint in heart and dim in eyes. Their hearts grew faint and their eyes grew dim because of the calamities that had come upon them. That faintness and dimness came under reproach and servitude in captivity.
Out of this grief comes confession that the Lord remains forever and His throne endures from generation to generation. Out of it also comes pleading with Him not to forget His people and not to forsake them. The plea is for Him to turn them to Himself so that they shall be turned, and to renew their days as of old.
