Thou, O LORD, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation.
Thou, O Lord, abidest without end, and sovereign authority belongs to Thee perpetually. Thy throne is not for a time but persists through every successive generation without interruption or decay. This permanence of reign is the unchanging foundation on which the afflicted may rest even in captivity and ruin. Beside this confession stands the cry not to be forgotten and not to be forsaken forever. Joined to it is the prayer to be turned back to the Lord and the plea for days to be renewed as of old.
