Lamentations 5:2

Our inheritance is turned to strangers, our houses to aliens.

The verse belongs to Judah's Babylonian captivity, when the nation had been carried away from its own land. Its inherited property had passed out of its possession into the hands of foreign strangers. Its houses likewise had come under the control of alien occupants. The transfer left the people dispossessed of what was rightfully theirs and lying under reproach.
