Leviticus 1:2
Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man of you bring an offering unto the LORD, ye shall bring your offering of the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock. Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man of you bring an offering unto the LORD, ye shall bring your offering of the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock.
The instruction to Israel opens the system of ceremonial worship centered on animal offerings taken from the cattle of the herd and of the flock. Those sacrifices were appointed by Christ Himself to point forward to the coming Saviour. In that foreshadowing they portrayed One who would bear the sins of the world and die to redeem it, so that the outward act of bringing the offering was far more than mere ritual form and represented something of far greater importance.
