Leviticus 10:4
And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp. And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said unto them, Come near, carry your brethren from before the sanctuary out of the camp.
Moses directed Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron and thus Aaron's kinsmen and relatives, to come near and carry their brethren Nadab and Abihu from before the sanctuary and out of the camp. Nadab and Abihu had just been slain for offering strange fire, thereby dishonoring their priestly office. They had been using wine, which benumbed and dulled their senses, clouded and confused their minds, and impaired their judgment.
In that benumbed and clouded condition they were unable to distinguish between the sacred or holy and the common. The account therefore warns generally that wine has this dulling and confusing effect on the senses and judgment. Appetite and habits must be kept under strict control, and loss of spiritual discernment must be guarded against.
