Leviticus 12:2

Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child: then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean.

Leviticus 12:2 belongs to the Jewish law requiring a mother's purification after childbirth. After bearing a son, the mother is ceremonially unclean seven days, according to the days of separation for her infirmity as during her monthly separation. About forty days after Jesus' birth, Mary and Joseph brought Him to Jerusalem in obedience to that law. As humanity's substitute, Jesus conformed to the law in every particular.
